Q:hey how are you? what an amazing blog you run! I was curious... is it necessary to put horses "to sleep" when they break a leg for some reason, can´t they heal properly? Idk, I heard about it the other day and I felt so sad about it! I couldnt belive it! and i feel like I have to say this again, your blog is so beautiful, I love horses so much!
I’m great :) thank you. At one time this used to be very true, especially for racehorses. A lot of time people didn’t have the resources or money it took to save their horse if they broke their leg. With today’s technology however, a lot of horses legs can be saved. Unfortunately, many horses who are athletes can’t go back to the work they used to do after breaking a leg and can end up in auction, which can lead to the slaughter. I only say this because the rescue I volunteer at got a thoroughbred who had a lip tattoo (meaning he was probably an ex-racer) and one of his legs looked like it had been injured majorly at some point. But yes, usually their legs can be saved :)
